Linden High School Wrestling; New Culture, Big Changes!
The Linden High School Wrestling Team is about two weeks from their first official competitions of the season, but if you ask any of the high school wrestlers, they feel like their in mid season form!
The team had a stellar preseason and showed dramatic improvements. Over the first two weeks of regular season practice the team has bought into the new system and the high energy practices. Each day this group works as hard as they can and have made it a personal goal to improve each day!
Under the new coaching staff many of these wrestlers are expierencing a new side of Wrestling! Captains, Avery Jacobs, Koleton Strauss, and Justin Cygnar are in agreement. “This year is very different then years past. Practices are at a much higher pace. Technique is a focal point of practice and the weight room addition is a much needed improvement. The team is focused on getting better and really gives their all each day!”
Sophomore, Colby K. said about the changes, “I like the changes to the program. We focus on technique and building muscle. This isn’t the weight cutting team, it’s the wrestling team! Coach Summerfield and Melick help us focus on our own individual strengths as wrestlers.”
Coach Summerfield and Melick are in agreement, “ we try to maximize what each wrestler has. We don’t change them as wrestlers, we look at their skill set and ability and try to maximize their potential. We realize every wrestler is not built the same or likes the same technique, we teach a variety of technique and help each wrestler focus on the moves that suits them best! We look to maximize each wrestlers individual potential! We do not try to make every wrestler the same.”
The teams first official competition is an Assembly Quad at John Glenn on 12/6. Before their first match the Eagles have an intrasquad scrimmage on 11/30, “The Red and White Dual,” and a scrimmage at Hartland with Dundee and Hartland on
