This week the Linden High School Wrestling Team kicked off their competitive season. Wednesday the team headed to Westland John Glenn and competed in an assembly quad in front of 2000 fans. In the quad, Linden wrestled #5 in D1 John Glenn High School and Carlton Airport. This young team battled in both Duals and left it all on the mat. Although the team did not pull out the upset each wrestler gave their best this early in the season.
The entire coaching staff were proud of their efforts, but wanted better results. We challenged the team to work harder and strive for more. The team refocused Thursday and Friday with determination and desire to make positive changes, and today those changes and hard work paid off.
Today, Saturday 12/9, the Eagles Wrestling Team headed to Garden City Michigan for the Holiday Invitational. It was the first tournament of the year for the Eagles and they came ready for vengeance.
The Eagles finished the day with 175 team points and won the Garden City Holiday Invitational. Senior Captain, Justin Cygnar led the Eagles winning the tournament at 119 lbs. and winning Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament. Cygnar said, “It was great to bounce back after a tough day at Glenn, not only for the team, but also myself. I was very proud of the team today. We really stepped up!”
In addition to Cygnar, the Eagles had two other Champions; Senior Captains Avery Jacobs 171 lbs and Koleton Strauss 140 lbs. All three captains had equally impressive days and led the team by winning individual titles!

Captains Avery Jacobs, Koleton Strauss, and Jacob Kitowski were in agreement with Cygnar and added, “Today wins was a total team effort. Everyone stepped up and rose to the challenge from the coaches. Keep an eye out for us, we have a chip on a shoulder!”
The Coaching staff, Coach Summerfield, Melick, and Bommarito were very pleased with the turn around in the team. “ We are all very proud of the teams efforts, but are hungry for more. This team will improve each week. The sky’s the limit for this team. The team that will be on the mat in February will be very different and improved from the team at the start of the season. We are happy with the results in the first week, but never satisfied. We are all excited for what this season has in store!
Follow the Eagles all year and cheer us on over the next three months.
