Wednesday the Linden Eagles Wrestling Team headed to Clio to take on Flushing and Clio in another Metro Tri Meet.
Before the match even started the Eagles had to overcome some adversity, the flu that’s been plaguing Linden High School as of late finally hit the Wrestling Team.
With most of the team sick, we simply asked the boys to give their beat effort, that’s all you can do in that situation.
In the first dual the Eagles took on Flushing. The Duals started at 119 lbs and the Eagles came out hot, winning 5 of the first 6 matches. Senior Captain, Koleton Strauss picked up his 100th career win in the Dual, with a major decision over his opponent. The Eagles lead the dual until a forfeit at 285 lbs. In the homestretch the eagles dropped matches at both 103 and 112, eventually losing the match to Flushing.
Final Score against Flushing: 27-44
In the second match the Eagles took on Clio in their Senior Night.
The dual started at 125 lbs. we bumped up Senior Captain, Justin Cygnar in the dual and he won by fall to also secure his 100th career victory. Great individual accomplishment and milestone for both Justin and Koleton on the night! Very proud of both senior captains.
Similar to the first dual the Eagles got off to a hot start winning 5 of the first 7 matches. Due to illness Senior Captain, Avery Jacobs (28-1 this season) was unable to wrestle. Sophmore, Uzziah Delgado, typically a 160 lbs. starter step up for the Eagles and bumped up to 171 lbs. Uzziah not only picked up a victory for the Eagles, he picked up a key pin.
Junior, Jonathan Marme and Junior, Caleb White also stepped up big for the Eagles picking up pins that helped secure the match.
Final Score against Clio: 38-30 Eagles.
After the Tri, Coach Summerfield met with the team and said, “Wrestling is a lot like life. You are not going to wake up each day feeling 100 percent. In life some days you are sick or your body is beat up, you can’t NOT go to work. Sometimes you have to grit through illness and minor injuries. Wrestling is the same, their are days all you can do is keep moving forward, give your best effort, and grit through the adversity. Today was one of those days for us. For the most part we rose to that challenge.”
